The wedding of a century. Now we aren’t talking about any A-list celebrity getting married, like Tom Holland or Zendaya. We are talking about the half-time wedding that occurred during Super Bowl Sixty.
Bad Bunny's halftime performance was met with heavy controversy in the months leading up to the game. He faces constant hatred from many different groups due to his background and home country. Rising above the hatred, the artist decided to make the central theme of the performance love, and a wedding in the middle was the cherry on top.
Around the five-minute mark, there was a depiction of a wedding, a family gathered, and people dancing. The song that Bunny was singing during this time was Baila Inolvidable. The messaging behind this song is incredibly important. The song itself is written to emphasize how a romantic relationship has left such a profound impact on one's life. Following this, Lady Gaga appeared to sing a rendition of “Die with a Smile,” another song that surrounds the theme of love. The alignment of the visuals of the wedding and the songs playing drives home the importance of love and relationships, how romantic. So romantic that fans were wondering who this couple was. Many thought it was backup dancers, while others believed that it was a true couple.
Well, as many would come to find out through social media, the wedding was in fact real. The two individuals were Elli Aparico and Tommy Walter. The individuals took to social media following the halftime show to extend their gratitude towards the artist for the special moment. Following the game, Bad Bunny’s team confirmed the reason behind the on-field ceremony. The couple had originally invited the artist to attend their wedding. Instead of turning down their invitation, Bad Bunny decided to invite them to have their special day during the halftime show. Not only that, but he offered to be their witness to their marriage, signing off on their certification.
The wedding helped to build on the broader theme portrayed in the artist's show. “The only thing more powerful than hate is love”. Bad Bunny took a thirteen-minute show and turned it into a masterclass on how to tell a story with a powerful message. Reinforcing to the viewers the importance of love, community, and compassion over hatred.
