"Joker: Folie à Deux"/ Warner Brothers/ 2024

"Joker" was released in 2019 and starred Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous Batman rival The Joker. The film follows failed comedian Arthur Fleck as he slowly descends into madness and becomes the villain we know.  Now The Joker will be coming to the big screen again in “Joker: Folie à Deux.”

While much isn’t known about the plot of the film yet, we know that Lady Gaga will star alongside Phoenix as Harley Quinn. The movie will also be a jukebox musical, described by Entertainment Weekly as a, “deranged musical fantasia.” Hildur Guðnadóttir told Variety, “It's an interesting decision," Guðnadóttir said. "It's both logical and also very surprising for me as well as the audience. So far, it's just been a really beautiful conversation, and I'm really excited to see how it unfolds."

In psychology, folie à deux is a form of shared psychosis, so we can expect the movie to follow the Joker and Harley Quinn will follow the connected madness between the two, and use musical numbers to highlight their episodes.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" will be released in theaters on Oct. 24, 2024.
