New details of the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump have started to emerge. It has been nearly two months since the first attempt at his life. Trump who was playing golf his West Palm Beach golf club in Florida, was “safe and unharmed” a Secret Service official said this past Sunday at a press conference.
On this past Sunday September 15th, 2024, Former President was playing golf when a man was spotted in hiding in the bushes that were surrounding the Trump International Golf Course. It was said that he had a scope, two backpacks, ceramic tiling and a GoPro with him. He had been camping out in the bushes for about 12 hours, getting there around 2 A.M. that morning.
When Trump golfs, Secret Service agents stay with him while others secure the next upcoming hole. While moving to secure the next upcoming hole a Secret Service agent saw the barrel of a rifle sticking out from the bushes. The agent quickly pulled out their firearm and fired around four to six rounds at the suspect.
The suspect then quickly fled the scene, Trump at the time was about 400 to 500 yards away and within firing range of the shooter. A witness soon after took a picture of the suspect's vehicle and soon after pulled over and arrested by police. The suspect was Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, the main suspect detained in connection with the attempt.
Routh spent most of his life living in North Carolina before moving to Hawaii and opening a shed building business. In 2016 Routh had many posts on his social media supporting Trump’s run for presidency, calling him “my choice.” But later, the posts of Trump changed from support to criticism and calling Trump an idiot.
Right now, Routh is being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and with obliterated serial numbers. The first charge can carry a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison with a $250,000 fine, while the second charge carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and another $250,000 fine.
