I'm a Sitcom Girl, What Are My Personal Favorites?

In 2025, I’ve noticed that sitcoms aren’t as prevalent as they used to be. People love them, and even go as far as to binge ones that ended 10+ years ago, but we aren’t seeing newer ones get as popular. It’s possibly due to the fact that directors don’t make sitcoms anymore because people are constantly attempting to create the “new best” TV shows and series, without thinking about how less might just be more. Sitcoms tend to have very loose concepts, allowing writers to create episode-by-episode storylines that don’t significantly alter the characters' lives. But that’s the charm of it; they’re digestible and bingeable. So, what are some examples of this?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
This is possibly one of my all-time favorite shows. It's about five people who run a bar called Paddy’s Pub, but they are the worst human beings imaginable. They are always up to some weird, grandiose schemes to get ahead in some way, or to prove a point either to themselves or each other. With characters like Frank Reynolds (played by the iconic Danny DeVito), a rich man who lives life on the edge, and Dennis Reynolds (played by Glenn Howerton), a sociopathic dude who never wins, you can’t help but end each episode feeling better about yourself.
New Girl
Corny and iconic. Portland teacher moves in with a group of guys, but it doesn’t turn creepy. That’s my spiel.
BoJack Horseman
I was actually just talking about this show with a friend! I could hardly classify this show as a sitcom, as it has a very developed story and doesn’t come in the typical, live-action medium. This is one of those shows that you can’t stop laughing or crying at, and it has yet another unreliable narrator telling the whole thing. If you are into following a former celebrity horseman who falls off the deep end and takes everyone else with him, this is for you.
Bob’s Burgers
I’m sure you know this one. As I’m writing this, I’m realizing just how much animation has taken over (in the best way possible) in the sitcom genre. With Bob’s Burgers’ uniquely simplistic animation style, the characters we’ve come to know and love since 2011, and hilarious dialogue, you’ll fall in love with it on the first episode.
