Eastern Women's Soccer Plays 1-1 Against Western Connecticut

The Eastern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against Western Connecticut State University on Oct. 7, 2026 at Rick McCarthy Field. Both teams competed throughout the game, with Eastern creating several scoring opportunities but ultimately settling for a tie.
Eastern finished the game with 10 total shots, including six shots on goal. The Warriors continued to pressure Western Connecticut’s defense and looked for opportunities to take control of the game. Eastern’s offense was led by several players who were able to put shots on target.
Emily McKelvey scored Eastern’s only goal of the game. McKelvey finished with three shots and one shot on goal. Alana Burnell recorded the assist on McKelvey’s goal and also had one shot on goal. Their contributions helped Eastern get on the scoreboard and gave the Warriors an opportunity to take the lead.
Faith Corona also had a strong offensive performance for Eastern. She finished with two shots, both of which were on goal. Glenda Zhiminaicela recorded two shots with one on goal, while Jordan Fabry also finished with two shots and one shot on goal.
Eastern’s defense and goalkeeping were also important throughout the game. Alex Ignatowicz played all 90 minutes in goal and made eight saves. Her performance helped keep Western Connecticut from adding more goals and allowed Eastern to remain within reach of taking the lead.
After Eastern scored, Western Connecticut was able to respond with a goal of its own. The game remained tied at 1-1 as both teams continued to look for another scoring opportunity. Eastern continued to compete on both sides of the field and tried to create chances late in the game.
Neither team was able to score again before the final whistle, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Eastern’s six shots on goal showed that the Warriors were able to create opportunities offensively, while Ignatowicz’s eight saves were a key part of the team’s performance defensively.
The Warriors will look to build from the competitive result as they continue their season. The tie against Western Connecticut showed Eastern’s ability to compete through all 90 minutes and create chances on both ends of the field.
