Eastern Connecticut State University’s women’s flag football team faced UConn in its first scrimmage on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Mansfield Athletic Outdoor Complex. The Warriors fell to UConn, 15–6, but the event marked an important first experience for the team.
The scrimmage allowed Eastern to take the field against another college program and gain experience as the team continues to develop. Although the Warriors fell short on the scoreboard, the matchup marked the start of their competitive run together.
Eastern's cheerleaders came out to support the women's flag football team. Their presence brought school spirit to the event and helped create a supportive atmosphere for the Warriors during their first scrimmage. Having the cheerleaders there showed support from another part of Eastern's athletic community as the new team took the field.
Women's flag football requires teamwork, communication, and quick decision-making. Players must work together to move the ball down the field, create scoring opportunities, and prevent the opposing team from reaching the end zone. Both offensive and defensive players have important roles in helping their teams compete.
For Eastern, facing UConn provides an opportunity to experience game situations and continue learning together on the field. The scrimmage also gave the Warriors a chance to represent their university while building experience as a team.
Starting a program takes time, practice, and commitment. As the Warriors continue developing, opportunities to compete can help players become more comfortable with their teammates and the demands of the game. The first scrimmage was one step in that process.
The support from the cheerleaders added to the occasion, giving the players encouragement as they competed in this milestone for the program. Their presence helped highlight the school spirit surrounding Eastern athletics.
Although UConn earned the 15–6 victory, Eastern's first scrimmage provided an opportunity for the Warriors to gain experience and continue building their women's flag football program. With support from the Eastern community, the team can use the experience as it prepares for future competition.
