Eastern Connecticut State University’s women’s field hockey team lost to Salve Regina University, 3-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at Rick McCarthy Field in Mansfield.

Salve Regina got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the first quarter. Eastern had to play catch-up early, but the Warriors continued to look for chances to get on the scoreboard.

Eastern got on the board in the second quarter when Grace Barlage scored the team’s only goal of the game. Barlage had a strong game offensively, recording five shots, with all five being on goal. Ella Rice assisted on the goal. The score was 2-1 going into halftime, giving Eastern a chance to come back in the second half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Eastern continued to put pressure on Salve Regina and looked for an opportunity to tie the game. The Warriors’ defense also kept Salve from scoring, keeping the game at 2-1 heading into the fourth quarter.

Salve Regina added another goal in the fourth quarter, making the score 3-1. Eastern continued to fight until the end, but the Warriors were not able to score again.

Barlage led Eastern with five shots and one goal. Jenna Boardman had two shots, while Sophie Ash and Katie Harrington each had one. Harrington also recorded a defensive save. Rice finished with one assist.

Eastern finished with nine shots and six shots on goal. Salve Regina had more offensive chances, finishing with 17 shots and 11 shots on goal.

In the goal, Veronica McKenna played most of the game and made seven saves in 51 minutes and 34 seconds. Kate Paradise played the final 8:26 of the game. McKenna’s seven saves helped keep Eastern in the game while Salve Regina continued to create scoring chances.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, Eastern responded with Barlage’s goal and stayed within one goal through the third quarter. The Warriors had opportunities to tie the game but could not find the back of the net again.

Even though Eastern came up short, the team continued to compete throughout the game. Barlage was a key part of the Warriors’ offense, while McKenna made several saves to keep the game close. Eastern will look to bounce back in its next game as the Warriors continue their season.
