Bitter-Sweet Reverie

I used to savor days with your smile,

Like sugar in my tea, warm and wild.

We shared the sweetness of the summer breeze.

Booming laughter like honey, dripping from trees.

But now all I taste is the edges of my tears.

Chocolates melted bitterness, not at all the sweetness it once had.

The life we shared together, once so light

Sticks to my tongue, too heavy, too tight.

Strawberries on the table, once so vibrant and red

Now sour and bruised, like words we never said.

Each bite of sweetness now feels like regret.

A bitter-taste – lingering.

I crave the sweetness, but it’s gone

Replaced by the bitter flavor of seeing your face.

Everything that was sugar, now salt.

And love, once so sweet, now full of regret and bitterness.

Please, just once more, let me taste the warm,

Honey in your kiss, a safe and familiar storm.

Can you return the sweetness to me, just for a while?

Bring back the joy,

Bring back the laughter,

Please, bring back the smile

That was once so sweet

But is now, so bitter.
